SPANISH LANGUAGE: Level B1-B2 (5 hours)

PICASSO AND MUSIC (HISTORY, ART, LITERATURE AND MUSIC OF THE 20th CENTURY) (10 hours)

OBJECTIVES:

  • To promote the student's interest in knowledge of Spanish society and culture.
  • To provide an overview of Spanish culture of the 20th century focussing on the most representative movements and artists in the fields of art, music and literature.
  • To discover and interconnect the main aspects that shape the history of music in Spain during the 20th century.
  • To improve knowledge of different aspects of 20th-century Spanish musical culture.
  • Stages in Picasso's painting and sculpture: periods, Cubism. Features of Picasso's painting.

CONTENT:

History of Music

  • Musical recovery:

The transition from the 19th century to the 20th century: Isaac Albéniz and Enrique Granados.

  • The Generation of '98 and the Generation of the Masters:

Manuel de Falla: his three stages.

  • The Generation of '27:

The musical features that define this generation.

  • The relationship between these musicians and intellectuals of the period. Lorca, Gerardo Diego, Picasso.
  • Joaquín Rodrigo

Spanish History

  • The Spanish Civil War (1936-1939): Picasso and Guernica
  • Franco's Spain (1939-1985)
  • Opposition to the regime: cultural and musical currents. Falla

Art

  • The influence of Spanish culture on Picasso's painting: guitars, flamenco and bulls.
  • The influence of other Artists on the work of Picasso.
  • Picasso and advertising

CREATIVITY AND WRITING WORKSHOP (10 hours)

Teacher: Francisco Javier Sagarna Comenge

OBJECTIVES:

  • To improve students' ability to express themselves in written Spanish.
  • To foster students' general learning of Spanish language and culture through the practice of literary creation at basic levels.
  • To introduce students to literature in Spanish, through various supporting texts and work ideas, as well as the society in which it was written.
  • To stimulate students' creativity using ludic activities and their critical sense during the text editing phase.
  • To introduce students to the basic techniques of the craft of writing.

CONTENT:

  • Exercises to beat writer's block.
  • The two phases of the creative process: creation and correction.
  • The artist's gaze. The personal diary.
  • The abstract and the concrete.
  • Creating characters.
  • The narrator's viewpoint.
  • Writing with the five senses. Visibility and sensoriality of the narrative.
  • The basic structure of a narrative text.
  • Desire and conflict.
  • Metaphor and meaning.
