The Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) is an official qualification, accredited according to the level of competence and mastery of the Spanish language, awarded by the Cervantes Institute on behalf of the Spanish Ministry for Education. UIMP (Menéndez Pelayo International University) is an official Examination Centre for the Diploma.
- The Diploma in Spanish Level A1 (Beginner) accredits the sufficient linguistic competence to understand and use frequently used daily expressions in any Spanish-speaking country, aimed at satisfying immediate needs.
- The Diploma in Spanish Level A2 (Elementary) accredits that the candidate is able to understand frequently used daily phrases and expressions related to areas of experience which are especially relevant (basic information about themselves and their family, shopping, places of interest, occupations, etc.).
- The Diploma in Spanish Level B1 (Intermediate) accredits the sufficient linguistic competence to understand and react appropriately to common situations in daily life and to communicate wants and needs at a basic level.
- The Diploma in Spanish Level B2 (Upper Intermediate) accredits the sufficient linguistic competence to deal with normal situations of daily life, in normal communication circumstances which do not require a specialised use of the language.
- The Diploma in Spanish Level C1 (Advanced) accredits the sufficient linguistic competence to express themselves clearly and without having to limit what they want to say. The candidate has a good mastery of a wide lexical repertoire, including idiomatic and colloquial expressions.
- The Diploma in Spanish Level C2 (Proficiency) accredits the sufficient linguistic competence to deal with situations which require a high level of language use and knowledge of the cultural habits through which it is manifested.
